Basketball Association of the Philippines (BAP) “No Longer Exists”: Is it is it not?
The legality of the events organized by the Basketball Association of the Philippines (BAP) is now put in question.
It can be recalled that the then contending parties Basketball Association of the Philippines (BAP) and Philippine Basketball (PB) is both dissolved after both group a signed resolution infront of FIBA the international basketball sanctioning body, and to formalize the creation of the Basketball Association of the Philippines – Samahan ng mga Basketbolista sa Pilipinas (BAP-SBP).
Recently, news is spreading that BAP will be holding the National Students Basketball Championship (NSBC) on January which BAP organizers claim that it will be participated by the cagers from the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), Universities Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) and the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation (CESAFI) which are stakeholders of the existing and accredited BAP-SBP confederation.
No official statement has been made from the so-called BAP organizers, from the participants if the event will indeed push through.
But, BSP-SBP National President Manny Pangilinan made an open statement today that “BAP no longer exists”.
In a report, BAP-SBP said it will continue the idea of uniting both UAAP and NCAA and launching a much larger national basketball competition that will be participated by colleges and universities all over the Philippines in the near future.
This issue puts the BAP-SBP member organizations into the test. What will be their response to the call of the so-called BAP die-hards will determine if it indeed no longer exists.
